Maji Mazuri 2021 – Head Start Highlights

2021 has been a fair year despite the numerous challenges brought by Covid-19 pandemic. We are glad that despite those challenges, our projects stood strong and continue to transform the lives of young people and families in our community. We share sincere gratitude to all our well-wishers and partners for continued support and believing in us. Your support continues to empower Maji Mazuri to make a difference in the lives of many children, youths and families that we serve.

  • 530+ pupils continue to receive quality basic education and social support including a hot meal every day through our Headstart School. Feeding is an important part of our education because many families can only afford a meal a day and sometimes nothing at all. Some are so poor to an extent that the school has to pack a meal daily for their dinner. This time has been harder because most parents lost their casual jobs because of the pandemic.

  • Our pupils have continued to record outstanding academic performance in national examinations (KCPE). Our 2020 class 8 pupils who sat their national examinations this year in March produced the best student in Mathare district with 406 marks out of 500 possible marks. This was a great achievement and honor to our school. The top 3 students from 2020 class 8 have joined top prestigious national schools with full scholarships from local well-wishers due to their outstanding performance. The top schools our students were admitted at are, Maranda high school, St. Barnabas Girls in Kisumu, Upper hill high school in Nairobi. Our pupils continue to be top performing students in these high schools that they went to.

  • Through local friends and well-wishers, our school library has been equipped with new textbooks and other learning materials. This will motivate our learners and cultivate a reading culture among them leading to better academic performance. We used to use one book for every five children but now the ratio has reduced and we have enough books to serve in the ratio 1: 3, one book shared by 3 pupils.
